Email newsletters are a great tactic for business to connect with their customers. When created properly, they arrive as expected in recipients and deliver great content that engages subscribers. E-Tech can work with you to:
- Follow the federal CAN-SPAM Act of 2003, which defines the laws regulating commercial emails. While the law did little to prevent spam messages, it defined the standards for a legitimate commercial message.
- Open an account with an email provider such as ExactTarget, MailChimp, Constant Contact, VerticalResponse. These companies, along with many others, work diligently to comply with all CAN-SPAM laws and maintain “white-listed” mail servers which prevent spam messages.
- Write interesting and relevant content that exceeds the expectations of the subscriber.
- Build subscriber lists by getting permission (or opt-in) from recipients before adding them to any lists. While the CAN-SPAM Act requires an opt-out on every message sent, the best practice is to have subscribers opt-in. Subscribers will be happy to have been asked, and therefore will anticipate receiving the messages.
- Segment subscribers by defining key characteristics that are relevant to the content of the newsletter. For example, a wine store may ask people about their favorite wines when they subscribe.
- Honor all requests to unsubscribe from an email newsletter without delay.
- Ask subscribers to add the email address of the newsletter to their address book or safe senders list, to avoid messages being filtered out by mail servers.
- Track the results of each message sent, and analyze for patterns and trends.
